Thanks for clarifying the situation with MQL5.

I'll go back to using excessive numbers of objects and code to achieve a seemingly simple task. 

I edited my previous post, it works with mql5 but in the example from the documentation, the function that sets the color,style and width is not called (as reported by RaptorUK). So when called, it works.
 

In which case it may hopefully be implemented into MQL4 in the future.

Indeed. A shame that so much of the literature remains conflicting.
 
Actually MQ wants us to use MT5. Their main goal actually.
